The New Coming

Curtains

Introducing the Play

Philip was the turtle

Lauren was the kitten

Hannah was the wolf

Hannah is really into writing plays and having the neighborhood kids act them out. This is a play she wrote herself. She created the set and costumes. Hannah and Lauren both used their chore money to buy the costume makeup. Hannah designed handouts to pass out to the neighbors inviting them to come. She made chocolate chips cookies for a snack during intermission. The kids rehearsed for four weeks before putting on the play.

Around the World: African Culture through Folklore and Fairytales

Imbube and the Antelope
This was a name of a game that the girls had the opportunity to take part in. It is like Duck, Duck, Goose in that the imbube (Lion) chases the antelope around a circle of kids. The kick is the lion and antelope have to run around the circle on all FOURS. As the the lion chases the antelope you clap and say imbube. If the lion is close to the antelope you clap and speak quickly imbube, but if it is far behind you clap and say it slowly. (You can see Lauren in this pic)
Hannah was the antelope and she was quick! She went around so fast that she ended up on the rear of the lion. The lion was sick or not very hungry as he was really slow. The gentleman teaching the game said, "Can the antelope eat the lion???"

The kids taking a bow.

Poor Alligator Turtle. We saw him on the way home.

Around the World: Chinese Culture Through Dance

Crane

Love Blossoming
Ox and the Princess
Micah

Hannah and Chloe

We thoroughly enjoyed this captivating performance. I have to say that it is one of my favorites that we have attended at the Miller Outdoor Theatre.
Hannah, Micah, and one of their friends Chloe got the opportunity to go on stage and learn the Dragon Dance with the fans.

Chinese Culture

Dance of Asian America Chinese Culture through Dance

Open your eyes to the rich cultural heritage of China through authentic Chinese dances. The vast land of China consists of the Mainland and 56 ethnic sub-regions each with its own dance forms that directly reflect each group’s lifestyle and customs. Classical and folk dances are a precious part of China’s cultural heritage and serve as a wonderful tool for learning about its many various traditions, history, and culture. Each dance performed includes authentic Chinese costumes, music, and detailed information that will guide students to a better understanding of China’s rich cultural heritage. This interactive performance involves audience members with dance props and dance movements.

So we are attending the above mentioned on Thursday. I thought we would read a China missionary story this week and make Chinese Noodle Chicken.

Today I made the Chinese Noodle Dish and lets just say mom probably won't be attempting at another Chinese dish.
