HISTORY
We read A Narrow Escape and A Savage People.
I created a fill in the blank sheet for Micah and Lauren on the five requirements the Pilgrims had for land that would be good to build their new homes on. Hannah had to write a summary.
I gave them a map puzzle. GOD'S NAMES
Jehovah-Or, The Lord is Light
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)
"God is light" means God is full of goodness and holiness. There is no evil or sin in God.
But people aren't this way, are we? There is sin and evil in everyone's heart. John said:
"Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil." John 3:19
In 2 Samuel 11-12:25 it tells of David who admires a beautiful woman who is bathing while he is dancing on the roof of the palace. He slept with this woman, Bathsheba, who was wed to another. David knew he was sinning and that it was wrong. Instead of running to God and asking for forgiveness David tried to hide his sin. David sinned again when he had Bathsheba's husband killed. Now he held in his heart more dark sin.
God sent Nathan to David. Nathan told David of a story about a rich man who stole a sheep from a poor man. David became angry against the man and declared that man should die!
Then Nathan replied, "You are the man!" Jehovah-Or, the Lord Is Light, had shown David the sin in his own heart. David ran to the Lord admitted his sin and asked for forgiveness.
Jehovah-Or, the Lord is Light, shines His light into our sinful hearts. He shows us His goodness and gives us a love for the light.

GOD'S NAMES
Jehovah-Shalom, The Lord is Peace
We read about Gideon in Judges 6-8 and how God gave Gideon peace and God gave Israel peace with its enemies.
God also gives other kinds of peace, too. "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you." (Isaiah 26:3)
But there is an even better kind of peace that Jehovah-Shalom gives-peace with Him. Jehovah-Shalom, The Lord is Peace, made peace with man through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.
"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed."
(Isaiah 53:5)
HISTORY
We read Plymouth Bay and The First Winter in Plymouth.
We did a notebook page/vocabulary on island and thatched roof.
Lauren drew a picture of Mary Chilton stepping onto Plymouth Rock.
While Hannah gave Lauren a bath spa treatment Micah made a Pilgrim window.
We also worked on a passenger and crew death math worksheet.

Judge of the Whole Earth
For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:14)
We read Revelations 21:1-22:5 and Matthew 13:40-43 and Romans 8:1
HISTORY
We read the chapter Samoset.
NATURE STUDY
Today we went to the farm and studied trees. In the chapters this week we have been discussing different trees the Pilgrims came across in the new land; so I thought it would be fun to go discover a few trees on the farm. Our sweet friends Jamie, Noah, and Roman joined us.
We first showed them some chopped Post Oak and Live Oak. We used this chopped wood to discuss the inside of a tree. What we covered is on the following sheet.
It was amazing to see how different the two kinds of oaks are. The Post Oak was smooth and straight while the Live Oak had deeper pores and a more irregular grain. It has a mixture of hard and softer grain and the higher rigids make it harder to get it smooth if you it for building anything.
We walked around and showed the kids Cedar trees, Pecan trees, Live Oaks, Post Oaks, Yaupon trees, a Huisach tree and a China Berry tree.

We had the kids pick a tree that they wanted to draw and label the outside tree parts. Four of the kids chose a young Red Oak. Granpa didn't know if it was a Red Oak or a Bur Oak so the kids used our tree guide to discover which one it was. They determined it was a Red Oak because its leaves had tooth pointed lobes and the leaves were a red color. You can get the tree part labels at
Hannah drew a Pecan Tree, Micah drew a Cedar, and the rest of the kids drew the Northern Red Oak tree.
After they drew their pictures we read the poem "Tree Feelings" by Charlotte Stetson, obtained out of my book The Handbook of Nature Study.

This was a cool spot. The ground was eroding. You could see all the roots of the surrounding trees underground. The kids jumped in from up top. They called it the IZ spot. A blend of the Ischys and the Zimmermans.

NAMES OF GOD
Jehovah-Maginnenu, The Lord Our Defense
"You are my refuge and my shield." (Psalm 119:114)
"Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield." (Psalm 33:20)
We read about Moses, Miriam, and Aaron in Numbers 12:1-16.
Hannah had a really good question. She asked, "How come Aaron didn't get leprosy like Miriam?" I thought it was an excellent question but I didn't have the answer and the commentary we had at home didn't cover this topic/question. We had to call daddy and get his help. He told us the best reason was:
That Miriam rather than Aaron was plagued by the disease reinforces the gender specific implication of the initial verb in v. 1 that Miriam was the chief instigator of the dispute.
Miriam was struck with a leprosy, but not Aaron, because she was first in the transgression, and God would put a difference between those that mislead and those that are misled. Aaron’s office, though it saved him not from God’s displeasure, yet helped to secure him from this token of his displeasure, which would not only have suspended him for the present from officiating, when (there being no priests but himself and his two sons) he could ill be spared, but it would have rendered him and his office mean, and would have been a lasting blot upon his family. Aaron as priest was to be the judge of the leprosy, and his performing that part of his office upon this occasion, when he looked upon Miriam, and behold she was leprous, was a sufficient mortification to him. He was struck through her side, and could not pronounce her leprous without blushing and trembling, knowing himself to be equally obnoxious. This judgment upon Miriam is improvable by us as a warning to take heed of putting any affront upon our Lord Jesus. If she was thus chastised for speaking against Moses, what will become of those that sin against Christ?

SURPRISE
For Lauren's birthday daddy brought home from Pearland the girls best friends. When he got home he said, "Girls I saw some new kittens on teh front porch go check it out." When they opened the door it was KK and Mattie with bows on their heads. All I heard was screaming! Lauren was so excited.
Friday
Today all the girls and Micah went and served at Meals on Wheels with daddy while I stayed home and made Lauren's favorite cake for her birthday. Jaimie and her boys came over and celebrated with us.

GOD MOMENT
This week in my time alone with the Lord it seemed cold and lonely. I was in the Word but nothing was penetrating into my heart. Thursday I cried out to Adonai, The Lord, pleading that I couldn't stand the separation, I needed Him. I knew something wasn't right on my part and there was something I needed to do. After crying out to the Lord I felt the conviction from the Holy Spirit that I needed to examine my heart, my attitude, my words and deeds; then repent of my sins and receive His mercy and forgiveness and He would wash me white as snow.
Have mercy on me, O God,

As I began writing out my convictions I was reminded of how filthy I am and deserve Hell, but Praise God the Judge of the Whole Earth has given us the gift of Jesus. "There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1)
After repenting of my sins I truly felt white as snow. As I drew near to Him in His Word I could feel His presence, there was peace within me and my lips and my mouth declared praises unto Him.
If you ever cease to understand the value of repentance, you allow yourself to remain in sin. Examine yourself to see if you have forgotten how to be truly repentant.
