- The Ischy's
- My name is Brandy. I am a wife to my wonderful husband, Tray. We have 4 blessings of whom were each beautifully shaped by the Potter's hands. We have chosen to homeschool our children and this is our 3rd year on this journey. This blog captures the essence of who we are and what we love to do.

Back to School
I am so excited to share that my husband is heading back to College of Biblical Studies. We would love to do missions when he finishes school. I guess we will have to see what God has planned for us. Wherever God leads us I'm excited about this new season of our life. Thank you Lord for providing the way and the means.
Autumn Tree Craft
Thanks to http://www.thatartistwoman.blogspot.com/ for the idea. She gave two methods to achieve this tree. We chose to do the paper bag method.

Missions for October
So this month the kids along with mom and dad put their money together to help God's Word for the Nations. God's Word for the Nations' sponsors well-established organizations who translate, publish, and distribute God's Word. If this month you and/or your kids are looking for a charity/ministry you can send your gift to: PO Box 1259 Rolla, MO 6542. Their email is gwn@gwftn.org and the phone is 573-426-3621.
Swine Flu
So this past week has been full of coughs, stuffy noses, achy bodies, and fevers. We are going on 6 days now and wondering when will this nightmare end???? I guess we didn't learn anything when we did the study on germs, ha ha. We haven't had insurance the last 4 years and have been flu free. This month the kids insurance began and what happens.....we get the swine flu. I have to say God has a hedge of protection around Lexi, she is the only one in the family who hasn't been infected. This is a good thing, because the pediatrician said that if she was to get it she would mostly like be hospitalized. Thank you to all our friends and family who have been praying!

Autumn Study: Oaks and Acorns
We are doing the Autumn Study: Oaks and Acorns from the http://www.handbookofnaturestudy.blogspot.com/. This challenge involves finding an oak tree to observe. My goal is for us to find a Live Oak, Red Oak and White Oak to observe this autumn.
Leaves and Acorn
It was a beautiful sunny day. We spent quite a bit of time outside observing and studying our tree. We observed the bark, talking about the color, roughness, creases in it. Then we measured the circumference of the trunk. The leaves we thought were pointed, stiff, and leathery. We talked about how the Live Oak's leaves stay green through the winter. When spring arrives the leaves fall off and new growth begins. Hannah's leaf measured 2-3/4". Hannah cut open the acorns and we talked about the different layers. We also compared the acorns that were on the ground to the acorns that were still in the tree. The acorn they picked from the tree measured 1" long.
Imperial Moth Caterpillar
It took us about two hours of research until we discovered that this is an Imperial Moth Caterpillar. We borrowed from a neighbor a 5 gallon aquarium and filled it with about 6" of soil so we can see this caterpillar turn into a moth. This type of caterpillar will burrow under the soil through the winter to pupate and will emerge a moth in the Spring.
Asp Caterpillar also known as Puss Caterpillar
Hannah was stung by this toxic caterpillar. The fur contains venomous spines that cause extremely painful reactions in human skin upon contact.
It may look soft and cute, but DON'T touch!
Lauren's drawing of the Asp we found in the backyard.
