Nature Stroll on the Farm

Thistle

Scissor-tailed Flycatcher

As the bird flies its tail open and closes just as a pair of scissors. They consume insects and are popular with ranchers and farmers. This bird is beautiful and a joy to watch fly. I tried to get a picture of this bird all day. As we were leaving the farm we were finally able to get one.

I think this is one of my favorites. Absolutely beautiful!

Some kind of egret track

raccoon track

When the males mate, a set of "claspers" at the end of the abdomen will open and clamp down on the female's abdomen. Butterflies mate facing in opposite directions with their abdomens attached.
This was the first time I have ever had the opportunity to see butterflies mating.

I believe the butterfly with the orange spots is a male Pipevine Swallowtail.

  1. What a wonderful photos of nature. And, how neat to see the butterflies mating! Also, I was glad that you identified the Dewberry as I've seen some lately and didn't know what they were. Thanks!
